Coming out of my house today after two loads of laundry
Changing the sheets on the bed, cleaning the bathroom surfaces
Shining the hall mirror and polishing the glass tabletop surfaces
I looked back at the tree crowding next to the front door and noticed its leaves were proliferating with new growth and pushing and posturing for sunlight on the over crowded branches.
And at the very tippy top I noticed a bright red flower freshly opened and petals eye catching even though the day was so grey to give such a lackluster and dreary background for this new darling.
How I delighted as red is my favorite color and I imagined filling every bottle, cup, and vase inside with fresh red blossoms
Then in rapid succession, I saw, I noticed, my vision expanded
As my eyes spanned the yards painted with various pastels of verdant blooming herbage. The Ornamental Plum next door full of pretty things of pink,
The neighbors towering Camellia tree, spilling over with bright red blossoms, dripping to the grown, mostly finished and visibly on the outs
How had I not seen Spring come?
Where was I when this great tree popped its celebratory champagne all over the front yard?
An overnight success had emerged on our domestic block and danced all the way across town lighting up every corner with daffodils and crocuses,
Purple pansies, pink fists of blossoms exploding on every branch and throwing fragrance to the wet air
An overnight success
Or had I just not had eyes to see the subtle changes of the world around me?
And so all at once the bushes and shrubs screamed wildly while running about tossing posies in the air like little girls with rambunctious temperaments.
Look here upon your life
As if it were that first red blossom, piercing through despite the grey
Soon your entire garden will be ablaze with showy flowers .... but
Understand that all year long regardless of your dismissive gaze, living things are gathering strength underground, the air is thick with spirit, and the rains are heavy with fertile desire
Silence coaxes the flower from the bud before the sun becomes a certain companion of each day.
Ah, how arrogant and blind of me not to see
Spring comes whether or not I lift my head to the ever present manifestation of Nature's true nature
Perhaps a metaphor for all my efforts. Spring: an overnight success.
My name, Chloë: means verdant and blooming. My life's desire: to blossom.
Chloë : "Green Shoot" Greek in origin and according to Google : People with this name have a deep inner desire to inspire others in a higher cause, and to share their own strongly held views on spiritual matters. Smile.....
