Create a Life Worth Living: is a true story about a woman who lost herself, buried her heart and dreams so deep, she found herself in very dark places, overworked and overwhelmed to the point of severe illness. After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, witnessing a fatal accident, and experiencing a prescription drug induced depressive episode, she began to research the cause of her illness, source of her deadly unhappiness, and sought seemingly unconventional methods of healing her multiple afflictions. What she discovered was healing, happiness, and love in the most extraordinary of places.
Why is it important to tell this story? So that others who find themselves in dark places, questioning the meaning of life and their purpose in the world, can have hope, and be inspired to make changes in their lives.
You can heal, survive and thrive after illness and depression. This story is meant to inspire and encourage others to listen to their own inner voice and creative impulse to change the course of their life towards fulfillment, happiness and love.
When 15 years of hard work and exerted efforts lead Chloë to the place in life where she was outwardly successful but internally exhausted, isolated, and severely ill, she found herself contemplating life and death.
What she describes as a time in her life as "all systems fail".
"I was diagnosed with a range of health issues, described as autoimmune disease with no cure. The symptoms began with my hair falling out, and then caused me to pass out in the airport while traveling for work, and went so far as to partially paralyze my hands so that I was unable to grasp my toothbrush to brush my teeth, write with a pencil or pen, or carry my computer bag.
The medications they put me caused me to have a severe depressive episode that led me to start asking serious questions about where my life was headed, and this is when I started making serious changes in my life.
I had battled with depression for 30 years, as a youth and teenager, I had contemplated suicide more than once as the only way out of my hopelessness. When I found myself in my 30s sick exhausted, single and alone, I began to wonder about the meaning of my life. What was the reason to go on living, if this all there was to life? I was shocked that I had arrived at this place after "doing everything right, and following all the rules".
Where had I gone wrong?
As fate would have it, I witnessed a fatal accident on New Year's Eve and in that moment I began to question everything. What was the purpose of life? Why was I alive? I witnessed that in one minute you could be headed to a New Year's Eve party and in the next minute you could be taking your last breath, and someone was going to get a phone call that would change everything, forever.
After being diagnosed with the autoimmune disease and put on meds that would make me suicidal, I vehemently began researching my illness and everything and anything that could make me better.
This course of inquiry would reveal many things and take me to unexpected places around the globe and within my own psyche and family history.
