Check out my feature interview as a rising artist in this months issue of Holistic Fashionista Magazine:
-How fun was that photoshoot? You flawlessly embodied our "fearless" theme. What was your favorite look, and why?!
Wow! I remember as a little girl getting dressed up in multiple outfits and posing in front of my bedroom mirror, pretending I was in a fashion photo-shoot, but this was the real deal. My inner child's dream come true! Smile. I loved getting up in the window and doing the "cat" walk, but I have to say my favorite outfit was the sheer black shirt, gold necklace, and the over the knee black boots. As soon as I put those boots on I felt FEARLESS, something about the juxtaposition of sophistication and dark edge was liberating.
-Tell us about your art?
I didn't always know I was an artist. Somewhere along the way, I had locked all my burning desires and creative expressions away in a black box and buried them deep under years of trying to do things "the right way". I never wondered "Who am I?", "What am I here for?" I only wondered how I could make more money and be more successful. I found myself very lonely and very unhappy. Photography helped me to see the beauty in the world and got me to dreaming again. As I started to dream, stories and desires just started to pour out of me. Story telling is my art. Through my photography and writing, I hope to inspire messages of hope for others who may be struggling with issues of unhappiness. I continue to push my own boundaries and contribute to the creative force of the world through imagery and the telling of life's true stories; each picture has a true story behind it - a heartbreak, a major turning point, an excruciating decision, a moment of grace, a whisper of inspiration, an answered prayer, a new hope, a dream come true, a message for you.
-Where do you draw your inspiration?
Often my inspiration finds me. Some of the most amazing photographs I've taken were divinely lead, meaning at the time it didn't seem like I had anything to do with it all! Most often I find myself in a bind someplace, or in cranky mood and all of a sudden something will catch my eye and BAM I snap a shot and it blows my mind. Story telling and writing just flow naturally from me when I'm emotionally engaged. I see my life as if I'm a character in a movie, I call it "The Greatest Love Story of All Time" and as I experience life the plot and storyline are revealed to me. I can't wait to see what happens next!
-Of all of the beautiful places you've had the opportunity to photograph... where has been your personal favorite?
The beaches of Normandie, France. I am not a World War II buff, but last winter in France when I found myself 40km away from the beaches on what turned out to be the most glorious cold and sunshiny day, I decided to drive myself up the coast and stop at every little marker on the map and get out and take a look. I spent the day in resounding silence, awestruck by the physical vastness and beauty of the places and stunned by the significance of the human experience that has transpired on those beaches. I took some of the most beautiful and personally significant photographs to date. Search my blog for Normandie, or read about the last day of my love affair and ending up alone on the beaches of Normandie here: You've Got the Sun
-A lot of artists struggle with the haters. Was there ever a time when you felt that your art wasn't good enough? What did you do to overcome that obstacle?
Was there ever a time when I felt my art wasn't good enough? Hmm. How 'bout yesterday, and a moment ago… smile. When I feel self doubt, I am reminded that inspiration and creative self expression is exactly the key that helps me to see the good in the world, the beauty, it restores my hope and my faith. Art helps me to dream. I believe that creativity is the key to unlock your connection to divine source. Seeing the beauty in the world that exists all around is what keeps me going.
-What kind of long term goals do you have pertaining to your business? your art?
I am writing my memoir this winter, about a girl from the mountains, that traveled the globe in search of love, and discovered herself. My plan is to publish an art book full of inspiring images and life's true stories about love, heartbreak, and finding yourself. My Parisian lover and I have started writing a movie script about our love affair…. but that's just a dream, for now. Smile.
