One hunt for a winter hat...

Laugh, Photography, PoetryChloë RainComment

Around the holidays, everyone starts thinking about all the things they want to do to improve themselves in the new year.... and perhaps all the things that they didn't accomplish in the last 365 days.

When we focus on all of the things that we've still got to fix, our focus is taken away from all of the things that are going right in our lives and business.

Just this week,  Dylan and I made a 1000 more old fashioned buttercream mints and Mom and I made homemade Kahlua for Holiday gifts. This is a family tradition of ours, going back from before the time I was old enough to drink.

And just last weekend, Mom and I celebrated with family friends the 33rd annual Jack Frost Party at our favorite ski resort, White Grass Ski Touring Center. I'll be posting some pictures from this great event early next week.

What began as a FB post about vodka and sugar, I turned into a fun little ditty about my family at Christmas. Read my accidental version of "The Night Before Christmas" below.

What do you want for yourself in 2015? How is this year going to be different from the last?

What would you be doing if you knew you could not fail? Where would you be right now if you were living your life on your own terms?

Have an absolutely beautiful weekend and focus on all the things that are going right for you in your life right now. IN-joy the sweetness.

Sending you so much love and courage to live and BE the amazing human being that you were born to be in this lifetime.

In love and service, xo,

One hunt for a winter hat...

This evening, one hunt for a winter hat, packed away in an unknown box, commenced a great bustle of Holiday cheer... nothing gets me going like Christmas decorating, and well, red, is my favorite color...

So out with the flaming red blanket of JOY. Out with the red strands of felted Peace, Hope, and Doves, Out with the Angels and Snowmen and Jingle bells and Reindeer ears and Santa hats. Out with the strands of bright stars to hang on the trees in the yard.

One hunt for a winter hat, this evening, caused an explosion of happy holiday crimson all through the Valley of Skywater Hollow Cabin, inside, then out, then over to Mom & Dad's, as a crescendo of merry non-baking and sweet candy making began in the kitchen.

Dylan and I, wearing our fuzzy red hats trimmed with fake white fur,
like a knockoff version of Le Père Noël....
We stirred a half gallon of vodka into a tub of coffee and vanilla,
We kneaded soft butter into heaping cups of confectioners sugar
Mother regulated the peppermint flavoring and father measured the coffee's ladling
As the kitchen elves became intoxicated and jolly, from a sip and a gulp of holiday spirits of holidays past

We laughed and we screamed over sugar and cream

{and garlic} hard to fit in garlic and rhyme it, but there was definitely some talk of garlic and pesto and mustard and pickles amongst all this vanilla and sugar

The product and creation of our merry making and sweet non-baking?
600 tiny pillows of old fashioned buttercream mints,
and a babble of bottles of homemade Kahlúa,

Bottled and floated, sugar dusted and coated
Ready the goods for the gifting and snifting and boozing and schmoozing!

And now we're all finished, and the kitchen is cleaned,
The dishwasher is full to the very last tureen

As I don my reindeer antlers and type and
D sits across the table in his Santa hat as I write....

A Happy Holiday to all, and to all a good night!
