40 Ways to Live a Happier Life

Be who you want, Inspiring, LaughChloë Rain1 Comment

In honor of life, adventure, the pursuit of happiness, and in celebration of turning 41 this year....... I am sharing 40 things that have changed my life at depth.

  1. Do something that you were supposed to do when you were a child or a teenager, but never did because you weren't cool enough, or you didn't want to make a fool of yourself. You're cool enough now. And even if you're not, who fucking cares? You're an adult, you can do whatever you want, even the uncool stuff.

  2. Climb a mountain, even a small one. Get up to a place where you can see life from a different perspective... take a breath, look around, enjoy the view.

  3. Pause, take a moment to remind yourself how far you've come. Think about how un-clever you once were, think about some of the silly things you used to think and believe about yourself and realize how you don't think that way anymore... Give yourself some kudos for being a ever evolving human being.

  4. Get caught in the rain. Purposely get wet when it's raining, because you want to. Don't run from the rain, embrace it, in your own present way. Notice how you feel.

  5. Go to your local used bookstore or library that sells used books for a $1 and pick up a book that catches your attention. Buy the book and know you've just contributed to the health of the planet by recycling that book.  Flip through the pages like shuffling cards, open it to a page, read what it has to say. Maybe its meaningful, maybe its not. It doesn't matter, you paid a dollar for it. Play like you're asking the magic 8 ball for a message every time you shuffle the pages.

  6. Ponder, does all life having meaning? No matter how difficult life gets, is it worth it?

  7. Pick flowers for your home or your beside table. I used to buy a dozen roses for myself every week at Whole Foods, when the blossoms started to wilt, I would go to the beach or go on a hike and I would say a prayer on every single rose petal and toss them one by one into the water. I would imagine the thousands of prayers I have spoken and released over the years all floating around.  Watch a video about this ceremony. When money was tight and flowers were not part of my budget, I would go to my local park at sunset and pick flowers, or steal a blossom from a blooming tree on one of my neighborhood walks. {Be considerate of your neighbors gardens, always be mindful, don't take too much and always send gratitude to your source. Tread lightly on the earth... I have picked flowers on the side of the road, or flowers sticking out of sidewalks in the city...}

  8. Lay in bed for a few minutes longer in the morning. Enjoy the comfort of your bed, and the beauty of rest and sleep, notice that today is indeed a completely new day. You will never live this day again, you have never lived this day before. What good things may come?

  9. Listen to the bird songs. Become curious. Why do they sing? Who do they sing for?

  10. Treat yourself regularly to small simple treats. Like a root beer float or orange tic tacs at the grocery store checkout line. Or stop off at the road side produce stand and buy a ripe peach, just because you can.

  11. Give gifts regularly, they could be small anonymous gifts, like paying for someone's expiring parking meter or an extra generous tip at your favorite coffee shop. Or even things like shells or stones that made you stop and pick them up. Whatever the sentiment, it's nice to know you can always give from the heart, and that's what will be received.

  12. Look people in the eye while you're checking out, no matter if you're at the gas station, the sandwich shoppe, or the dentist. See what they're saying with their eyes.

  13. Write note cards to people who pop into your mind and send them, just thinking of you.

  14. Go on regular picnics.  Even when my budget went from expensive bottles of Sancerre and exotic cheeses to 2 Buck Chuck and $2 end samples from the cheese bin at Whole Foods, regular picnics have always been a rich treat for sky gazing, contemplation, grounding and centering.

  15. Have a soundtrack to your life— make a playlist of your favorite songs, or songs that inspire you, make you feel better, or lift your spirits.  Give your sound track a name like "Almost Famous"  or "Magical Mystery Tour" or "Superfly" or "Pretty in Pink" or whatever character you imagine or fantasize yourself playing in this great play called life.

  16. Roll the windows down sometimes. When you're in the passenger side, hang your head out the window (safely), or your feet, or just do that thing with your arm and your fingers like you're making a wave as the wind gushes underneath your wing.

  17. Save a picture to your screen saver, either on your phone or computer that symbolizes something you want for yourself.  For several months I had a picture of a couple kissing in front of the pyramid at the Louvre, for some reason this symbolized true romance to me at the time.... I didn't know it yet, but within less than 6 months I would be having my own love affair in Paris. I realized later that I had programmed myself for that potential reality in my life.

  18. Take baths regularly. Like real baths, in the tub style. This goes for you men, too.

  19. Downsize your life.

  20. Think about how relatively big your current house is compared to the majority of people who live on this planet. Consider living in a smaller house, and yet feeling like you have more space in your life, more freedom, more expansiveness.

  21. Think about a teacher in school who made an impact on your life and realize what they were up against in their personal life to make the decision to be a school teacher, perhaps feel grateful they listened to their calling and were there to help you, despite their own personal sacrifices.

  22. Don't take yourself too seriously.

  23. You didn't fail that bad, it wasn't as fatal as you thought.

  24. People already forgot.

  25. Don't keep putting your happiness off into the future. Even if you hate your life right now, try to find one thing that is hilarious enough for you to laugh at yourself, so that you can find the good of still being alive.

  26. Make something to share with others, bake bread or cookies, or make beer, something you want to eat, later, eventually. See what happens when you put effort into making something you will invite someone to eat or drink with you.

  27. Build a fire, in a fireplace, a fire pit, a campfire, or on the beach. Learn what it takes to make a good fire.

  28. Realize your connectedness to everything around you, then expand your realization to how connected you are to the people in your life. Just by thinking of them you are connected to them.
  29. Re-connect to something that you put aside a long time a go, be it a childhood passion or a teenage obsession. Think about what you loved to do as a kid and then go and do that... See how you feel. Is there anything you’ve been wanting to do for a while but you haven’t made time for it? NOW IS THE TIME.
  30. Make time to be by yourself. Even just a few minutes during the day can help you connect to yourself rather than being caught up in outside forces.

  31. Write down the things that you truly value. Go back to this list regularly… update the list. Check on this list to see if the things you are doing and spending your time on are in alignment with the things you say you truly value.

  32. Answer the phone when your friend calls, they may be holding the vision for you of your greatness, when you can't see the forest for the trees.

  33. Go on mundane adventures, at least once weekly. Often times we think we have to plan something big, or an adventure takes money and time we don't have. But when you set a goal to explore somewhere once a week, be it in your neighborhood, or a short drive from your home, or even a walk in a different direction outside your house, you do not know what is waiting for your on the other side of intentional awareness. A whole new world.

  34. Fantasize regularly about an amazing sexual encounter you once had or dream of having. Let yourself feel completely satisfied in the end.

  35. When you wake up in the morning drink one beautiful, cool but not cold glass of clean water. Before you drink the water look into the glass and imagine that you are filling the glass with pure love, and that the water is pure and loving energy. Drink the glass of water like you are drinking a glass full of love potion.

  36. Introduce yourself to new music, regularly, especially go and see live music in small venues. Listen to the lyrics, let the music make your body move... allow yourself to "look silly" dancing, just so you remember how it feels to dance. There are no rules here, no directions needed.
  37. Make something just because. Create something, or do something just for the sake of self-expression. Write, draw, create, paint, cook, make love, make love to yourself. Allow it all to be ok.

  38. Remind yourself how important YOUR LIFE IS.  Make sticky notes that remind you of the importance of being you and that let you know that you are special and unique.  Set reminders on your phone with your values, or things that you intend to be, or to experience in your life.

  39. You are a DIVINE HUMAN BEING. There is no other speck of stardust in the Universe just like you. No one else thinks your thoughts, feels your feelings, or has your desires, or is capable of doing the things you want to do, in the way that you and only you can do them.

  40. You are an individual expression of multiverse life force creation energy. Never forget the source of your power. There is NO ONE else in all the Universes like you.

The way to find out who you are is not by comparing yourself with others, but by looking to see whether you are fulfilling your own potential in the best way you know how.

Life your Purpose
You’ll never look back, but you’ll never be the same. In a good way... but its wild to realize that you don’t stay the same, everything you thought you were goes away, then the real you shows up, and you don’t even know her... but you like her

Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better. What if they are a little coarse, and you may get your coat soiled or torn? What if you do fail, and get fairly rolled in the dirt once or twice? Up, again, you shall never be so afraid of a tumble.

Opening to a New Possibility

InspiringChloë RainComment
Opening to the New

Imagine you have internal tides just like the sea.

Most of us, live our lives so disconnected from our internal guidance that when the pull of our hearts becomes so strong, and the voice inside has been muffled for so long, the feeling that arises within us feels more like a life crisis than an emergence into something more beautiful.

Its difficult to trust that you will be provided for, that in fact the Universe does have a master plan and included you in this plan and you in fact do play an important role in the Universe.

We do live on Earth after all and are made up of 75% water, so imagine that you are influenced by all the amazing forces at work here in our Universe, even the ones we have yet to understand or have the awareness to see. You experience cycles just like the Earth and the moon, though most of us do not realize how our internal states of being are influenced by the energies at hand. Often we feel confused, restless, stuck, or even powerless to change our mindset and state of being.

The Full Moon tonight provides us with an opportunity to take the time to release our fears and surrender into new intentions for ourselves. This past weekend we experienced the Summer Solstice (June 20-21), physically we are experiencing more *light*  right now and since the beginning of time, our ancestors have marked this period with ritual and celebration. As you know, there are thousands of ancient sites created around solstices and equinoxes that were built to honor our connection to the Sun as the source of our light and life force.

Now is a time of celebrating the fullness of life and of taking the time to raise our energy to regenerate abundance and manifest our dreams, because in the visions of our dreams is the guidance of our Master plan.

Connecting with our deeper desires, does not involve knowing the answers to all of our questions, because it's only in not knowing that we can be truly receptive and it's only in being receptive that we can truly discover, learn, and evolve.

When we shift into wonder and curiosity, there is an opening to a deeper wisdom. Our feminine power, is a shift from the masculine energy, where not knowing could be seen as weakness or being powerless, to our feminine way of being, where wonder and curiosity are the ultimate source of power and strength.

In sharing our vulnerability, and learning the practice of unknowing and non-attachment to the outcome we are allowing a new possibility of feminine energy and natural flow into our lives.

I would invite you to do something symbolic to honor your life in the next few days, perhaps, light a candle and say a blessing for your life and the life force living in your body.  Make a commitment to go within and be silent each day to let your internal guidance know that you are listening and intend to have open lines of communication from here on out. Let your Inner Voice know that she in fact has a very important role in your life and you're going to be listening a lot more and intend to be IN-joy.

Do something fun, be playful. Invite in your own Divine Spirit to come a play for a while. Its summer time after all.....

Knowing yourself is the the beginning of all wisdom.

You may find yourself asking "Where do I start? How do I begin?" Begin with answering the call within, listening to the voice of your Inner Guidance.

Fear of change is normal, but there are ways to learn to overcome your fears and start acting on the guidance within that will lead you to your happiest life and natural way of being in the world.

This is the time you do something amazing.

Move from mundane to extraordinary.

No, It's Not Selfish to Want to Go on a Spiritual Journey

Why go on a spiritual journey

Is it greedy—or irresponsible—to go on a quest to discover who you are? Not even a little bit.

By Elizabeth Gilbert

The other day, a desperate-looking woman approached me on the street and grabbed my arm. I assumed she was about to ask for money—but she looked me in the eye and demanded, "Is it selfish that I want to go on a spiritual journey?"

Now, this might seem like a bizarre question to be asked by a stranger, but I'm used to it. In the decade since I wrote Eat, Pray, Lovewhich is all about my own spiritual journey, I've been asked a variation of this question by thousands of women. (And I've certainly been accused of selfishness for having taken that journey.)

Women constantly tell me they long to do what I did. Even if it's not possible for them to travel the world for a year, they want to create their own quest. They tell me they want to deepen their relationship with God and with themselves—but they don't want to seem entitled, irresponsible, frivolous. Aren't the demands of reality more important than their esoteric questions? And what if their spiritual journey leads them far from their cultural or religious origins, or disrupts their marriage? And what makes them think they're so special, anyhow, to deserve a spiritual quest?

A lot of these anxieties stem from one problem: Often women believe they're not supposed to desire anything beyond home and family. But the craving they feel isn't wrong; it's human. Every spiritual journey in history has begun with a sense of dissatisfaction—with somebody saying, "This is not enough for me."

Does it make you selfish, then, to go searching for something more? I say no—and here's why:

You have the right to try to figure out who you are.

This is not a simple task; you are a unique event in the history of the universe. There has never been a you—not your particular soul, living at this particular moment, faced with your particular challenges. Your existence is a mystery, a miracle, and an experiment of creation, and you are allowed to examine that mystery to the fullest.

A spiritual journey bears no resemblance to a spa vacation.

True spiritual investigation is rarely relaxing; expect your search to expose painful and challenging truths. We don't generally take on the fundamental questions because they're fun. Usually, we're brought to them on our knees. Staying with those questions, despite the discomfort, is a path for the brave.

Doing something for yourself isn't by definition selfish.

In Mandarin, there are two words that translate to selfish in English. One means "doing something that benefits yourself." The other means "doing something greedy." In English, we don't have this distinction. In our puritanical culture, we tend to believe that anything benefiting us is probably greedy. But guess what? You can do great things for yourself without taking a thing away from anyone else.

Going on a spiritual journey can be a public service.

Spiritual journeys are attempts to alleviate self-suffering. And until you can alleviate your own suffering, you will continue to inflict suffering—not only on yourself, but also on those around you. Happy people are much better at caring for others than those who are in pain. (Haven't you witnessed the way misery and depression make you unable to think of anyone but yourself?) Once you've found peace, you will be able to serve humanity.

All this is what I told that desperate-looking woman, and it's what I'm telling you now. If you long for a journey, embark on one—for yourself, for the people around you, for all of us. We learn from one another's paths. In fact, I guarantee you this: You will not be the only person you liberate along your private road to freedom.

Spiritual Journey to the Andes

Aya Vision Ceremony, Spiritual Immersions, and pilgrimages to the Mountains of Peru offered throughout the year...

Thank you, Liz Gilbert for this spot on piece on why taking a Spiritual Journey is not only in service to your Soul, but to the rest of the World! AHO. Ari.

This morning we sat down at Jack's Cafe, one of our favorite places to eat in our favorite neighborhood of San Blas (Cusco Peru). A dog followed us in from the street and put his head in my lap under our breakfast table, then laid down with his rump resting on my foot for the entirety of the meal and conversation.

In the window, next to the humongous bouquet of gladiolus that touch the ceiling with their blossoms, was an old copy of O Magazine, something about Oprah's outfit, wearing knee high muck boots and a ground grazing pink sequin skirt in her garden, caught my attention. The theme was "How to Show Up for Life"... so I was compelled to take a look at what Oprah had to say about this topic.

This spurred the most enthusiastic conversation about life, finding your own magic, creating right livelihood, Liz Gilbert, and a few other famous people and their messages— not to be mentioned here (because we don't agree with their message no matter how famous they are).

By the end of breakfast we were feeling most inspired about the day ahead, the work we had on our plates, and the very meaningful purpose for being alive.

Below are some pictures from the recent 2018 Spiritual Journeys in March and April, join me for the upcoming Spiritual Journey in October of this year! Check out more pictures of the sacred journey on → Facebook.

Shake off this sadness, and recover your spirit

Shake off this sadness, and recover your spirit

Throw Yourself Like Seed

Shake off this sadness, and recover your spirit;
sluggish you will never see the wheel of fate
that brushes your heel as it turns going by,
the man who wants to live is the man in whom life is abundant.

Now you are only giving food to that final pain
which is slowly winding you in the nets of death,
but to live is to work, and the only thing which lasts
is the work; start then, turn to the work.

Throw yourself like seed as you walk, and into your own field,
don’t turn your face for that would be to turn it to death,
and do not let the past weigh down your motion.

Leave what’s alive in the furrow, what’s dead in yourself,
for life does not move in the same way as a group of clouds;
from your work you will be able one day to gather yourself.

What can failure teach us?

Be who you want, Inspiring, Life Lessons, Learning to Love YourselfChloë RainComment
I have learned to give, not because I have much, but because I know exactly how it feels to have nothing.

When things go wrong all at once, it's hard to see the bright side. But what if losing out can teach us to be more appreciative for what we truly have?

Even if it's not the easiest way to learn to savor the small moments, sometimes failure or loss can be the biggest reminders of what is really important in life.

Many successful people tell us that we should keep a Gratitude Journal, that this is a key activity of every successful and happy person. Many thought leaders have suggested that when we understand how to practice gratitude in our daily lives we will become more prosperous and happy people ourselves.

I had read this, maybe even tried keeping a gratitude journal once or twice, but I really didn't know what gratitude was all about or how to practice gratitude. Not because I was unthankful, I just didn't understand what it meant to feel grateful for the things in my life, when it seemed that most everyone I knew, including myself, was hell bent on accomplishing more, getting more things, and climbing the Mount Everest of Achievements, faster than everyone else. When I took stock of my life, it felt like time was running out. How could I possibly do, get, and achieve everything I thought I needed to in this lifetime?

I tried to grasp the concept of gratitude, for my current life circumstances, because I knew it would be a good thing if I did. And even in that thought process, I had missed the boat entirely.

Gratitude is an emotion expressing appreciation for what one has—as opposed to, for example, a consumer-driven emphasis on what one wants.

Studies show that we can deliberately cultivate gratitude, and can increase our well-being and happiness by doing so.

In addition, gratefulness—and especially expression of it to others—is associated with increased energy, optimism, and empathy.
— Psychology Today

Gratitude wasn't something I learned through appreciation or journaling, or taking stock in my life and my relationships.

No, gratitude, was something I learned through failure and defeat.

Strangely, the process of defeat became the teacher of one of the most important and immutable life lessons one can learn in this lifetime. Becoming grateful for my life and everything I had (and then didn't have) was the ROI I received when I invested everything I had in an ideal and lost it all.

What I learned was that my ability to dream, implement, follow through, lose it all, recover against all odds, and optimistically work toward an ideal with hope beyond hope, helped me to see the value of what it means to be alive.

Learning gratitude for life, creativity, resourcefulness, and becoming grateful for life force still coursing within me, was the immeasurable bounty of going broke.

There are times when our world feels like it is breaking down and dissolving right in front of our eyes and we might feel like it is totally out of our control.

At the same time, something strange begins to happen inside ourselves... We begin to become more resourceful than we have ever been before. We begin to think creatively. We begin to know our own self-worth in a way that we've never contemplated or experienced before.

As we are stripped of things we once thought were important, we begin to understand that at the core of our being we are worthy of existence, not because of what we do or what we have, but because of who we are.

Your life and the value you bring to the world through your own self expression and creativity are the most priceless possessions that no one and NO thing can ever take from you. There is no other speck of stardust in the Universe just like you. No one else thinks your thoughts, feels your feelings, has your desires, or is capable of doing the things you do, in the way that you and only you do them.

The essence of Gratitude, is appreciation for life in and of itself. Your life matters, because you are You, and no one else can do what you are here to do. Since you are still alive, your life has a reason and a purpose and if there is breath in your lungs, you haven't fulfilled your mission on Earth. Time to figure out what you are still doing here, and go for it.

8 Ways to Ensure Failure

Be who you want, Receive More Thursdays, InspiringChloë RainComment
  1. Give up. Sometimes your breakthroughs will look and feel a lot like breakdowns. This is a great news! Have you ever exercised so hard you felt like you were going to throw up? Have you ever exercised for a long enough period of time to see and feel the results of your efforts in your body? If you feel like you're getting squeezed through the eye of a needle, or like your life has just gone through the human version of a trash compactor, good news! You've just been rid of all that was blocking you from your breakthrough!
  2. Garbage in, garbage out. You are what you eat, you are what you consume. What are you telling yourself? What kinds of thoughts do you allow to take up space in your daily routine? What are you nourishing your soul with these days? What kinds of  things are you feeding your mind? What are you doing to nourish your body? How much time do you spend making yourself wrong?
  3. Don't take a bath.
  4. Don't sleep on it.
  5. Vow that you must figure it out for yourself by yourself. Don't show your face or tell anyone about what's ailing you until you've solved the problem or recovered from the heartbreak all by yourself.
  6. Refuse to make time to receive help, even when you've got a built in support system wanting to help you.
  7. Don't do anything you've ever done that has worked before, because you've "been there done that" and you must find an absolutely new way to solve every problem so that you can declare your genius, with proof.  Sometimes doing the simple tried and true thing to make you feel better can instantly and dramatically shift the potential outcome of the situation. I know you don't want to, but just give it a try.
  8. Be critical of yourself.  Beat yourself up like you would take a hammer to a puppy who just messed on the floor. Don't allow yourself any self compassion like you would tell your son who was shunned by his friends in kindergarten because he did something that wasn't normal to "suck it up, there must be something wrong with you!" "You should try harder to fit in and be like everyone else!" And how you would tell your daughter who just lost her allowance when she invested in a friends candy bar scheme that didn't pan out "You're so stupid. You're never going to have money again in your life!" "You must have attracted that loss into your life because you're not open to receiving!"

Sound at all familiar?   Here's what I recommend instead:

  1. Take giving up off your list of options. You can't unlearn the things you know or undo the desires you've claimed. You can only always go forward. Trust there is a breakthrough and a miracle waiting for you on the other side of the breakdown. Giving up isn't an option any longer, the only way forward is through.
  2. Pay attention to your focus and attention. What you focus on expands. Don't spend any time making yourself wrong for well anything. Not one second. Not one more second.
  3. Take a bath, preferably, or at least a shower. You always feel different, if not better after taking a bath and letting the water seep in. Do you know how many clients tell me they had a brilliant breakthrough in the bathtub!??! Or came up with a brilliant solution while scrubbing in the shower?!  If you're stuck, go get your behind in the shower, right now. Seriously.
  4. Take naps. If you're stressed out, go to bed. If you're sad, sleep the day away. If you can't figure out the answer or the solution, sleep on it. Science has proven that "sleeping on it" actually helps our brains solve problems more quickly and our bodies heal faster.
  5. Do not isolate. Ask for help, care, love, support, or just some company from someone you know has always got your back, no matter what. Make sure its someone you can trust with your tender heart, someone who thinks you're great despite all the flaws.
  6. Do not stuff your emotions. Take time to tap your resources, telling yourself you do not have time to figure out a solution or you do not have time to make yourself feel better, will not make the problem go away. You will not feel better by shelving your emotions until a more convenient time.
  7. Try something that has worked for you in the past. Can you think of a time when you had a breakthrough? What were you doing just before it happened? What helped you to usher in that insight?  Maybe you just need to listen to a good song that always lifts your mood. You'll be surprised what even a tiny shift in emotion can do for your clarity.
  8. Learn self compassion. Build your self compassion muscle like you were training for the Iron Man and pulling 4 ton dump trucks for show. Flex your self compassion muscle all day long, like you are training to climb Mount Everest. Then when thing edgy painful things come up you will have a well of self compassion to cleansing and nurture your wounds.

Right on the other side of the breakdown is the breakthrough. In the meantime, take a nap, eat your candy bar stash, while floating in the bath tub, listening to your favorite guilty pleasure song.

Don't take yourself too seriously and don't cheat yourself out of too much life experience because you're afraid you're gonna do it wrong, or get hurt in the end.

The trouble with pleasure is the timing it can overtake me without warning

One of the Butterflies

The trouble with pleasure is the timing

it can overtake me without warning

and be gone before I know it is here

it can stand facing me unrecognized

while I am remembering somewhere else

in another age or someone not seen

for years and never to be seen again

in this world

and it seems that I cherish

only now a joy I was not aware of

when it was here

although it remains out of reach

and will not be caught or named

or called back and if I could make it stay

as I want to

it would turn to pain.

Sometimes Life is Difficult

Sometimes Life is Difficult

Resistance tends to strengthen the energies it attempts to oppose by giving them power and energy to work against.

We all know the feeling of being repeatedly haunted by the same issue, no matter how we try to ignore it, avoid it, or run away from it. Sometimes it seems that we can get rid of something we don't want by simply pushing it away. Most of the time, the more we push away, the more we get pushed back. There are laws of physics and metaphysics that explain this phenomenon, which is often summed up in this pithy phrase: That which you resist persists.

Resistance tends to strengthen the energies it attempts to oppose by giving them power and energy to work against. Additionally, resistance keeps us from learning more about what we resist. In order to fully understand something, we must open to it enough to receive its energy; otherwise, we remain ignorant of its lessons.

There is a Tibetan story of a monk who retreats to meditate in a cave only to be plagued by demons. He tries everything chasing, fighting, hiding to get the demons out of his cave, but the thing that finally works is surrender. He simply lets them have their way with him and only then do they disappear.

Now, this wisdom must be applied practically. We are not meant to get ourselves physically injured. Instead, this story speaks of how, in essence, our demons are inside of us. What plagues and pursues us on an inner level has a way of manifesting itself in our environment in the form of people, events, and issues that appear to be beyond our control. But all these external expressions are reflections of our insides, and it is inside ourselves that we can safely experiment with surrendering to what we fear and dislike.

It may feel scary, and we may find ourselves in the company of a lot of resistance as we begin the process of opening to what we fear. But the more we learn to surrender, and the more the demons that plague us disappear in the process, the more courageous we will become.

Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult-once we truly understand and accept it-then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.

Take a shower, wash off the day. Drink a glass of water. Make the room dark. Lie down and close your eyes.

Notice the silence. Notice your heart. Still beating. Still fighting. You made it, after all.

You made it, another day.
And you can make it one more.

Take a shower. Wash away every trace of yesterday. Of smells. Of weary skin. Get dressed. Make coffee, windows open, the sun shining through. Hold the cup with two hands and notice that you feel the feeling of warmth.

You still feel warmth.

Now sit down, and get to work. Keep your mind sharp, head on, eyes on the page and if small thoughts of worries fight their ways into your consciousness; threw them off like fires in the night and keep your eyes on the track. Nothing but the task in front of you.

Get off your chair in the middle of the day. Take on your shoes and take a long walk on open streets around people. Notice how they’re all walking, in hurry, or slow. Smiling, laughing, or eyes straight forward, hurried to get to wherever they’re going. And notice how you’re just one of them. Not more, not less. Find comfort in the way you’re just one in the crowd. Your worries; no more, no less.

Go back home. Take the long way just to not pass the liquor store. Don’t buy the cigarettes. Go straight home. Take off your shoes. Wash your hands. Your face. Notice the silence. Notice your heart. It’s still beating. Still fighting. Now get back to work.

Work with your mind sharp and eyes focused and if any thoughts of worries or hate or sadness creep their ways around, shake it off like a runner in the night for you own your mind, and you need to tame it. Focus. Keep it sharp on track, the task in front of you.

Work until your eyes are tired and head is heavy, and keep working even after that. Take a shower, wash off the day. Drink a glass of water. Make the room dark. Lie down and close your eyes.

Notice the silence. Notice your heart. Still beating. Still fighting. You made it, after all. You made it, another day. And you can make it one more.

You’re doing just fine.
You’re doing fine.

I’m doing just fine.

You can stop seeking your passion now. You won't be able to "find it."

Be who you want, Inspiring, Rites of PassageChloë RainComment
How to know if you are living your life purpose

You can run away from yourself for a very long time.

But eventually that will bite you in the ass.

You can stop seeking your passion, now. You won’t be able to “find it”.

It lives within you, you could not have lost it unless you ripped it from your own DNA strands.

You are born with your own unique life map and reason for living. No ONE else has this information. It does not exist out there. The answer could not possibly exist out there or be separate from ourselves… or then we would all really be screwed, spending our whole lives looking around trying to find IT, hoping someone else doesn’t have IT, or that we will be lost forever without IT.

The only way we lose IT and lose our guidance is when we silence it, cover it up, or don’t give it voice, don’t trust it, or think that our own internal guidance is “lying to us” or leading us astray.

In that sense, we can only ever make one “mistake” and that is to not to trust ourselves, our own wisdom, and that the Universe doesn’t have our back.

Find what is real for you.

When we ask for the things we truly want in our lives, the lessons we are given to “get us there” do not come in the way we think they should… but none the less you are fulfilling your soul’s purpose even right now, by being you. Even without knowing how.

There are people in this world that live their purpose just by going where they are called to go and by being themselves. Perhaps this is the greatest human experience to be at home in your heart and to trust that by following it you will in fact fulfill your highest purpose without having the need to call it such.

My desire is to live a life that is worth living and one that is dedicated to a greater cause than just myself. That is real for me.

Find what is real for you.

What Oprah & Liz Gilbert know about Authenticity....

November 2015 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine: How to Do What You Love

You can be married to the wrong person for decades and pretend it's fine. You can fake it doing work you only half care about. You can hide behind accoutrements, square footage, and cars. Big-screen TVs and fancy vacations. But you will never get away with being a phony.

Eventually life reveals itself and shows you a mirror to help you see your own truth.

And if you've been faking it, ignoring your thoughts and feelings (what I call your emotional GPS), the wake-up call can be harsh.

The call often comes in the form of what, on the surface, looks like loss: loss of a job, a relationship, your looks, or whatever external thing you use to find value in yourself.

When you excavate deeper, examining more closely every situation that has fallen apart, you will find truth gone awry.

I know for sure that we each contribute to the whole of what it means to be a human on earth. The fullness of our humanity can be expressed only when we are true to ourselves. Your real job on earth is to become more of who you really are. To live to the highest degree what is pure, what is honest, what is natural, what feels like the real you.

Anything less is a faked life.

To be authentic is the highest form of praise. You're fulfilling your mission and purpose on earth when you honor the real you.

Your whole life becomes a prayer of thanksgiving.

Literally jumping for joy in Peru! Join me here this fall.  Sacred journey to Cusco & Machu Picchu.

She’s turning her life into something sacred: Each breath, a new birth. Each moment, a new chance. She bows her head, gathers her dreams from a pure, deep stream and stretches her arms towards the sky.
— Monique Duval

Happiness, joy, truly enjoying life, these aren't topics I take lightly, nor am I flippant about the real life dark places that we find ourselves in, even after doing all the right things, following all the rules, and "working on ourselves"...

I had battled with fairly serious depression for over 30 years, and as a young person suicide had been a daily consideration. As I aged, things became tolerable, but not necessarily better. Then again, in my mid thirties I began to seriously question if I had a reason to keep living.

I wondered why anyone would bother to keep going when it seemed life never really got any better, and most of my experiences had only deepened my sadness and loneliness, so what the fuck was the point?

Depression is not an inconvenience, it's not something that leaves over night after you read a good book.

It is also not an illness you have to live with your entire life. It is possible to heal from depression and anxiety without medication.

I started with simple things, the only things I knew to do that would keep me from my self destructive behaviors.

I started spending any free time I had in nature.  I started sheltering myself from people who meant well, but ultimately didn't know what was best for my well-being.

I devoured books about real people who had recovered from great challenges and were now leading extraordinary lives.

I started taking risks, I started listening to my heart as it started speaking up.

As the beauty and true abundance of nature started to seep into my bones and cleanse me of my toxic thoughts, the Universe began to dialogue with me... in ways I'd never heard spoken before, and messages I'd never received... and I LISTENED.

When you find yourself thinking there must be more to life than this and longing to experience something greater in life, then most likely you are ready to begin exploring deeply your own purpose for existence. When you begin to explore deeply, you learn to uncover your true power and gifts, and are able to find meaning in your past failures.  This is when  you will come to believe in yourself again and that is when you become powerful beyond belief.

I'm sharing all of this with you with the intention that I may offer a message of HOPE.

HOPE, that you too, can find your way, WILL FIND YOUR WAY to happiness and joy. That it is possible to come to terms with the "failures" of your life, and begin to see that some of the heartbreak was in service to your heart opening.

It was a fated journey to Cusco Peru and Machu Picchu that ultimately helped me heal from my long standing depression, fully and completely once and for all. The ancient spiritual energies of the land of Peru and the medicine I received there helped save my life and led me to discover my true purpose and gave me a reason for living.

My entire existence is now dedicated to the revolution of the human spirit.

My "work" is an extension of who I am BEing, and everything I do is an expression of living life the best I know how, and then learning to open to receive more joy.

If you are feeling called to experience something unlike anything you've ever experienced before, please join me this fall in Peru for a Spiritual Pilgrimage that will undoubtedly change your life.

You can experience the mystical world of living energy and touch the magic of the place first hand, October 28th! You may learn more about the journey here. I will be sharing my intimate knowledge with you of the ancient wisdom of the Andean Spiritual cosmology and how this medicine helped me to discover my life purpose in life and heal from depression.

Join me for Spiritual Pilgrimage to Machu Picchu & Cusco Peru

Below are photographs of my first initiation in Peru where I was told the "The Mountains are speaking to You." and I understood something about my life I had never truly grasped before. The Incas call the spirit of the mountains Apu, and consider the Apu to be the most powerful of all Nature Spirits; the mountains remain extremely sacred in the Andean regions of modern Peru.

Some of these pictures are difficult for me to share because I can see the weight of depression and illness on my face and my body. But I know that after these pictures were taken, not only did my experiences help me to heal from depression, but also helped me heal from an autoimmune disease and severe anxiety issues. I look and feel better now than I ever did in my 20s or 30s!

Jumping for joy in Peru!

As you turn inward and fall in love with the truth of who you really are, you become whole despite the brokenness.

I received my four year degree in Anthropology from the College of William and Mary and had spent an entire semester studying Incan culture, but that was almost two decades ago, and I had never before entertained the idea of exploring Peru.

When I met a woman at a fancy networking event in Santa Monica, California and she told me she guided sacred journeys to the Andes I knew I was going with her.

Two months later she greeted my friend and I at the airport in Lima Peru in a white gown with feathers in her hair, and whisked us off to a cafe to have coco tea before getting on the next plane to Cusco where we would be based during our week long adventure exploring the Inca ruins and participating in ancient traditional ceremonies.

IMG_5798.jpg

Our residence in Cusco was down a tiny cobblestone and dirt one lane road. When we walked through the gate at the entrance, and it opened up to this stunning interior courtyard, I was taken aback by the juxtaposition of beauty and poverty.

One evening in the manicured courtyard of our residence, the moon was full in the sky, and there were lit candles hanging in the trees all around us.

Behind us, the statue of Cristo Blanco was lit up on the mountain top.

I had no idea such beauty existed on earth. The people, the mountains, the food... I hadn't known what to expect from this journey, but the spirit of this place was transforming me from the inside out.

The peace.

I felt at peace with life, my world, who I was, who I wasn't. I was just being.

The beautiful city of Cusco, Peru

 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
CUSCO CITY PERU

We took the scenic train to visit the Lost City of the Incas and as we arrived early in the morning at Machu Picchu the clouds and morning mist obscured our vision.

We hiked to the Sun Gate and sat in meditation with eyes closed until the sun warmed us as the morning clouds dispersed.  As I opened my eyes I could not believe the magnificence of the sight before me.  The ancient city sat between the two mountains Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu, with extraordinary views of the Urubamba River and valleys below.

The terraced hillsides with the clouds and mountains behind them looked to me like a fantastical place from the future, not a 500 year old ancient and abandoned city.

Water poured from the Incan water temple as if its people had disappeared only moments before, in an instant, like the clouds dispersing with the sunshine.

I received a message, a vision have you, while exploring deeply during my reintroduction to self and moving beyond my fears into a fantastic reality of ancient wisdom and present awareness. The message was...

Creativity is the key to unlock the divine.

Though it would take me many years to unpack all that occurred during my first visit to Peru, it was undeniable that I had irrevocably changed at depth and my life would never be the same again.

The message and vision I received on that journey have been the guiding force for creating the life I now live. I understand that anything is possible once we find our own unique way of connecting with our divine source. And once you uncover the connection to your heart and engage the creative life force within you the transformation you experience becomes visible, the internal shift creates the external visible effects.

Creativity is the key to unlock the Divine.  Self expression is the vehicle.

The moment, is NOW.

Spiritual Pilgrimage to Cusco & Machu Picchu Peru

October 13-20, 2018

This bride appeared to me on the streets of Cusco after completing a ceremony where I released a past love and sent a prayer out to the Universe for partnership. As we were walking home from the Ceremony we found a beautiful bouquet of flowers on the road. This is when I began to interpret the signs that appear to us when our prayers have been heard and when the dialogue with the Universe began to flow to me and through me.

What happens when you mistake safety for your DESTINY?

Be who you want, InspiringChloë Rain
What happens when you mistake safety for your destiny?

What happens when you mistake safety for your destiny?

How often do you find yourself having the conversation inside your head that sounds a little like you're trying to convince yourself that you’ve got it really good. Or maybe it sounds a lot like you’re trying to convince yourself that you’re happy. But something just doesn’t feel right.

It goes something like this….

Scenario #1

I’ve got a great job and it pays well, I’m lucky that I even have a job when so many others are unable to find employment. But sometimes it's a struggle to get up in the morning and go to work.

And sometimes I wish I could close the door to my office or crawl under my desk in my cubicle and curl up in a ball until the day is over. Sometimes I wonder what I actually do for the last three hours of the day?

Watching the clock, knowing that tomorrow will be the same, there will never be an end to the work, and I can’t remember the last time I got excited about an assignment.  I plan my life according to how many vacation days I can afford to use to go visit my family AND actually take a real vacation.

When was the last time I took a real vacation?

Scenario #2

He’s not a bad guy and we’ve been together so long, I wouldn’t know who I am without him. We’re good friends. That’s enough. Besides I’d miss his family.

I made a commitment and I promised myself I’d never get divorced. I don’t want to be embarrassed going through some messy break up.

I like that everyone thinks we’re the perfect couple. But we’re not. We’re far from perfect. In fact I’m not even sure we’re a couple. Maybe this is as good as it gets? I should just be happy I’m not alone.

But I feel like I am alone, most of the time. If only he understood me better. I wish he would try just a little more.

I feel like I’m the only one working on this relationship. Is he happy? Maybe this is my fault, maybe I’m the only one who can’t be happy?

Scenario #3

Maybe some day. But when? I'm saving up for retirement. And well I'm still paying off that last vacation I took. I need to buy a new lawn mower, and make that car payment. What if I have to pay for car repairs?

Only 6 more months to Christmas, which means I’m 4 months away from beginning to buy presents. Man time flies, I feel like I just paid off last years presents, and that party dress I wore to that New Year's Eve party.

Why don’t I start planning earlier for these expenses?

Maybe I’ll put that vacation off till next year, you know I can start planning for it now and that seems really responsible.

How many years am I going to spend doing the same thing I do every year?

How many years has it been? I think I’m getting old.

Yeah, I guess this is what happens when you get old.

You work, you plan for retirement, you save up your vacation days, you live the same day over and over again.

You try to convince yourself that you’ve got it good, that you’re happy, and you’re fortunate.

And YOU are. But you’ve got this nagging sensation that you’re meant for something more. And something tells you that a raise just isn’t gonna cut it.

If you only KNEW what it was? If you only knew what you’re supposed to do you’d be doing it.

Does any of this sound familiar? If you’re still reading this, I imagine some of it is hitting home.

If I knew what I was supposed to be doing, I’d be doing it! In the meantime, I’m gonna keep doing what I’m doing cause it's not so bad.

But this isn’t how it works.  Unless you’re one of the lucky ones, that was born knowing exactly who you wanted to be when you grow up.

I’ve always envied those people, those people who just always seem to know what the next step is. But that’s not the case for the majority of us.

The problem:

We’ve never asked ourselves who am I?

What do I like to do?

We’ve never spent time really exploring this.

When we do find something we think we like and then end up feeling dissatisfied, we spend a lot of time making ourselves wrong, convincing ourselves this is as good as it gets, or being afraid to change our minds, because at least the known is safe.

But that's not the way it has to go...

The only risks we regret in life, are the ones we don't have the guts to take.

Here's to your miraculous unraveling.

Make a sincere commitment to creating a magnificent life, and focus your attention and energy to deeply connect to your true source, then watch as miracles start to happen.

Begin by making this statement to yourself. Write it down, say it out loud, take time each day to feel into this statement:

I, __________, commit to creating a magnificent life, measured by my own chosen standards.

  1. Start clearing beliefs that aren’t yours
  2. Spend time discovering your own beliefs
  3. Take action to implement your own beliefs
  4. Watch for miracles in your life

How Loving Kindness Can Change Your Life
You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens.
— Rumi

When I left Seattle, my exit was abrupt and overshadowed by a breakup — it had felt like fleeing under the cover of night and a dark cloud of shame — for a long time a part of me held onto an idea that I'd return shortly and resume my beautiful life there.

My heart ached for the energy of the place and the spirit of the mountains that had permeated my soul and had become part of the life force that pumps through my veins with every minute. It was as if my soul and my body longed for the connection with those mountains and the places that had been integral in my heart opening to the beauty of living.

On my way back to the east coast, I had spent most of my cross country flight crying my eyes out and writing in my journal. I was feeling sadness, yes, but mainly deep gladness and deeper gratefulness for my life experience and all the people who had graced my path and relationships that had changed me at depth.

The city, the lush green and the deep waters had healed me, soothed me, and taught me things about myself I hadn't known.

Though as I said goodbye, I had understood that something else was pulling me forward into the future, the next big adventure....

I was grieving and simultaneously grateful, attempting to resist the reaction to cling to the past and beg for things to be different than they are.

We flew into bad weather as we neared the east coast and I arrived in the Charlotte airport only minutes after the last plane had departed that could take me to the rural airport near my birth home. It was almost 11pm and I feared spending the night in the airport after a very emotional day of crying and grieving.

Several hundred passengers had been grounded or had missed their connecting flights because of bad weather.  The mob quickly began to swarm and anger pulsed through the crowded airport. I quickly turned my awareness from my own sadness to the swelling anger of the crowd and as the passengers' complaints began to get louder, I began to practice loving kindness.

I connect to Source, fill up my energy field, and then radiate love from the core of my being through mindfulness and detached intention.

I use the practice of loving kindness or Metta daily. On normal days, on lonely days, on days I feel great, sometimes all day, throughout the day, and in stressful situations it has an especially positive effect on the external circumstances around you.

The practice of loving kindness is the tool I use to release worry, self-doubt, and it is how I learned to heal myself from decades of depression.

As the aggravation levels skyrocketed I blasted feel good rock and roll in my ear buds drowning out the sounds around me and radiating as much love as my tender heart could muster into the crowds.

Arriving at the USAirways re-ticketing counter I spoke softly to the lady at the counter, sending her compassion from my heart. She quickly handed me a voucher for the nights stay, rebooked my flight for the next day and ushered me to the shuttle to the Woodlawn Courtyard. I silently blessed her and then thanked her warmly out loud as the next customer approached her irately complaining "how unacceptable everything was".

After a smooth shuttle ride to the Courtyard, I shuddered thinking of how many Courtyards across the United States I had helped renovate in my previous life as a project manager for hotel development. Walking into the very familiar surroundings, I recognized the layout, the furniture, down to the carpet and fabric scheme, the pictures on the wall and even laughed out loud recognizing that it was the "yellow flowers theme" and recalling with humor what a pain-in-the ass that wall mural is to install correctly.

I was greeted at the front desk by the manager, Stacey, it was well after midnight, and when she asked me how I was doing? I responded honestly, that I was feeling very human, heart broken, and that today had been an emotional day, with an unexpected nights stay in Charlotte.

Then Stacey came out from behind the desk and gave me a hug. Tears came to my eyes, because of her sincere desire to comfort me and my ability to receive this kindness from a perfect stranger.

I hadn't eaten all day, and as I retrieved a frozen dinner from the Courtyard food market, Stacey waived me through and gifted me my dinner and a bottle of wine saying "You're all taken care of my dear".

I hugged her a second time and sent blessings of love to her, her family, everyone she encountered, and to Courtyard Marriot of all things!

I have laughed many times thinking of how different my life has become and of the person I used to be. In all of my professional glory and fierce personal boundaries, I would never in a million years have been able to hug the manager at the Courtyard front desk and shed tears of gratitude, while feeling my own raw and open heart.

I am grateful for the practice of loving kindness and for the person that I have become through this practice.

I am grateful for the depth of emotion that I feel on a daily basis and the ability to shed tears while blessing the human race and all those suffering and in heartache.

I am home now in my heart.

A little loving kindness and human compassion can go a long way.

A little love and kindness could just save the world.

Here is an easy introduction to the practice of loving kindness, a prayer for you:

The Philosophy and Practice of Universal Love: Metta

The Pali word metta is a multi-significant term meaning loving-kindness, friendliness, goodwill, benevolence, fellowship, amity, concord, inoffensiveness and non-violence. The Pali commentators define metta as the strong wish for the welfare and happiness of others (parahita-parasukha-kamana).

Essentially metta is an altruistic attitude of love and friendliness as distinguished from mere amiability based on self-interest. Through metta one refuses to be offensive and renounces bitterness, resentment and animosity of every kind, developing instead a mind of friendliness, accommodativeness and benevolence which seeks the well-being and happiness of others.

True metta is devoid of self-interest. It evokes within a warm-hearted feeling of fellowship, sympathy and love, which grows boundless with practice and overcomes all social, religious, racial, political and economic barriers. Metta is indeed a universal, unselfish and all-embracing love.

As adults we rarely venture out of our comfort zones to learn new tricks. But here's the key, new things, when practiced can quickly become skills, and then skills can become natural ways of being, and then natural ways of being move us toward grace...

And well, from grace we can inspire all sorts of things... And in inspiring others from our own state of grace we can model that this is all possible for you too, it begins with stepping outside your comfort zone....

As an adult, you must rediscover the moving power of your life. Tension, a lack of honesty, and a sense of unreality come from following the wrong force in your life. --- Joseph Campbell

Any man who is attached to the senses and things of this world... is one who lives in ignorance and is being consumed by the snakes that represent his own passions.

Whatever happened to our dreams?

Inspiring, Be who you wantChloë RainComment
Whatever happened to our dreams? The infinite possibilities each day holds should stagger the mind. The sheer number of experiences I could have is uncountable, breathtaking, and I’m sitting here refreshing my inbox. We live trapped in loops, reliving a few days over and over, and we envision only a handful of paths laid out ahead of us. We see the same things each day, we respond the same way, we think the same thoughts, each day a slight variation on the last, every moment smoothly following the gentle curves of societal norms. We act like if we just get through today, tomorrow our dreams will come back to us. And no, I don’t have all the answers. I don’t know how to jolt myself into seeing what each moment could become. But I do know one thing: the solution doesn’t involve watering down my every little idea and creative impulse for the sake of someday easing my fit into a mold. It doesn’t involve tempering my life to better fit someone’s expectations. It doesn’t involve constantly holding back for fear of shaking things up. This is very important, so I want to say it as clearly as I can: FUCK. THAT. SHIT.

Today Give yourself more credit- for all the things you've already done

Be who you want, Give More Tuesdays, Inspiring, PhotographyChloë RainComment
Spiritual Healing Prayers : Natural Ways to help Anxiety

Today give yourself more credit for all the things you have done, for continuing to show up, for continuing to aspire to dream and to achieve.

In giving credit to yourself for what you’ve achieved and what you’ve worked through in order to get here, you change your relationship to "getting things done" and your perception of your ability to accomplish that which you set your mind to.

I'm going to suggest you set your HEART to it, instead....

It has been said by many of the Great Masters, that the things we do that light us up in side, the things we spend time doing where time and space appear to bend, and all other things begin to melt away are our greatest indications of "Who we are and what we're 'here to do'" in this lifetime.

You must listen to that soft voice within your heart that is gently guiding you to your happiness and along the way you are "accidentally" fulfilling your destiny.  These things we love or feel strangely drawn to are the bread crumbs that our Soul has left for us to to help decipher the treasure map of our lives and lead us to our buried treasure.

Sometimes the hardest, yet simplest thing we can do to have that thing it is we so deeply desire IS TO GET CLEAR on how you want to FEEL when you've manifested that thing that it is you say you want and desire.

Do you want to lose 30 pounds, or do you want to feel good in your body? It feels much more difficult to imagine how I'm going to lose 30 pounds, but I can easily imagine how good I want to feel in my body, and this is the ticket! GET REALLY CLEAR ON THE FEELING... try the feeling on to see if it fits you. Walk around in the feeling like a pair of shoes, see if you're comfortable in them.

All of a sudden you might realize that the thing you really want to feel is freedom, not necessarily that you want to manifest a million dollars.

All of a sudden you might realize that you want to feel passionate, not necessarily like you have to strive for everything in order to get it.

All of a sudden you might realize that you'd like to feel desired and supported in your relationship, not necessarily equal.

Whoa. Doesn't that feel different?  This kind of exercise incites a different kind of quality then what you thought you wanted before you got clear.

The qualities of passion, freedom, desire, and support are very different from striving, responsibility, and equality...  so what is it? What do you want to feel?

When you key into the FEELING and it fits you like a glove and you're clear on the feeling, and you magnetize the feeling by putting energy and intention into it..... THEN you're cooking with gas! When something catches your attention and you get that same sensation that you became clear on you, can trust that thing is leading you to your manifestation. Even if it doesn't seem logical, as long as you've become clear on how its going to feel, there's no need to attach to the HOW its going to come about.

Going back to the basics of manifesting and the feminine principles of life has brought me so much hope, freedom, and joy... I wanted to share with you, that even though you might have "tried that already", trust me when I say, if you get really honest with how you want to feel, and wear it like skin, life will begin to show up for you in ways that you couldn't have imagined.

Set your heart to it, instead.

It may just be the only way.

Beltane Fire Festival: Celebration of Life & Love : The Significance of Ritual In Our Lives

Be who you want, Inspiring, Nature, Ceremony, Rites of Passage, Rituals, Spiritual SignificanceChloë RainComment

Beltane and its celebration and the rituals that we as humans have performed for thousands of years has been about fertility, fire and passion, and bringing forth life and in preparation for an abundant harvest.

As I fine tune my own personal cycles and soul path, as I learn more about indigenous traditions, plant medicine, and the Ancestors the more I have felt at home in my own body and at home in my life. I encourage you to tap into the ancient wisdom that also courses within your veins.

As I observe my own annual cycle of emotion, experience, energy, and transition to conclusion... there seems to be recurring themes and certain seasonal patterns through the years. As I continue to allow myself to be carried by the energetic waves, the ebb and flow of life, more is revealed.

This time of year with the fullness of spring it seems to no surprise that the tiny ping of my heart, grows so loud as to pound out all other sound.

I love how ritual and coming together in circle can reconnect you to your truth while being with others helps you to truly celebrate the mystery of life and the wonder of it all....

I love how ritual and coming together in circle can reconnect you to your truth while being with others helps you to truly celebrate the mystery of life and the wonder of it all....

The recreating of ancient rituals has become popularized especially in our modern Western Culture, but the very individual and personal experience of participating in ritual can be life changing and life affirming.

Beltane Fire Ritual & Celebration

Beltane, whose past and present significance is steeped deeply in ritual rites of sexuality and fertility, celebrates the height of spring, and the coming of summer, the earth has warmed, and May 1st(ish) astrologically is the end of darkness in the sun cycle.

Beltane: The Fire Festival is celebrated as the symbolic union of the May Queen and the King of the Forest, and the marking of the Light half of the year the end of the dark cycle. There's no denying this time of year is ripe with the energies of abundance, passion, lust, fertility, sexuality, and pregnancy.

The constant buzzing of hummingbirds and the multitude of species of bees around my house, coupled with the constant chirping of frogs frolicing in the pond, and the endless chanting call of the Whippoorwill at night in search of his mate remind me that some noise is required to call in LOVE.

The drum beat of my soul, the pounding of my heart, the buzzing of my cells, and the singing of my heart song is what reminds me that I am alive, and well, and fertile, and ready for the union of my hearts desire.

So perhaps take some time today to acknowledge your desires, and maybe even perform your own unique ritual to consummate the union of your desire and the seed of life and energy of birth. Trust that the discomfort of uncertainty is only a mild symptom of the joy of pregnancy and the expectancy of new life!

Love as a state of being, Love, coupled with passion for life and purpose. The unquenchable thirst for love and desire for the unknown and magic of living.

The constant drum beat of the internal longing to feel whole, alive, and on fire with desire. This pulsating and throbbing has only become more profound, more distinct, like a homing beacon.

What is on the unknown horizon of life, the unexpected fulfillment of desire in ways I couldn't imagine?

I feel pregnant with anticipation, so much so that my breasts ache. I stand in astute awareness and attention in the unknown.

I remind myself of a vow I have made "I surrender my personal will to divine will. I live in the present moment and seek only truth."

I pray for more magic, more surprise, more serendipity in my life.

Yes, this is when I feel more alive, when chance has its way with me and I realize that I'm very much more pleased with the flow and natural rhythm of my life, than I would have been with single focused and structured plans.

Uncertainty is a symptom of the arrival of magic, wonder and awe, the unknown is only the breath just before the Aaaah of AMAZEMENT.

The only thing that makes life possible is permanent, intolerable uncertainty: not knowing what comes next.
— Ursula K. Le Guin

Sunrise at Bealtaine by Irish Photographer: Ken Williams  At the Beltany Stone Circle in the North West of Ireland, the sunrise at Beltane is aligned with the only decorated stone in the circle. The Beltany Stone Circle gets its name from Beltane which is associated with the lighting of hilltop fires in a rekindling of the sun.

The beginning of May, signifies one of the astrologically and historically important cross quarter dates of our calendar and the seasonal progression of the earth and growing seasons: Beltane or May Day celebration.

Beltane occurs 6 months after Samhain {Halloween}, and in the Celtic way of looking at the seasons marks the end of winter, the ‘dark’ half of the year, and the beginning of summer the ‘light’ half. Like Samhain, Beltane is a liminal (between) time, when the veil between the worlds of physical and nonphysical is thin- considered a good time for divination and particularly for seeing the Fair Folk (the Fae).

Beltane is one of the 8 sacred celebrations of the year and turning of the seasons : Imbolc; Ostara/Spring Equinox; Beltane; Litha/Summer Solstice; Lammas/ Lughnasad; Mabon/Autumn Equinox; Samhain/Halloween; Yule/Winter Solstice.

Beltane Fire Ritual & Celebration:

Fire and passion, love and life, brought together as one.

I am the earth, the womb of all creation.
Within me, new life grows each year.
Water is my blood, air my breath, and fire is my spirit.
I give you honor, and shall create new life with you.

I am the rutting stag, the seed, the energy of life.
I am the mighty oak that grows in the forest.
I give you honor, and shall create new life with you.

The earth is once more growing new life within!

We shall be blessed with abundance this year!

That Which is to Give Light Must Endure Burning

Inspiring, Landscape, Photography, NatureChloë RainComment
That which is to give Light must endure burning.
— Viktor Frankl

“Don't aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it.

For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself.

Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge.

Then you will live to see that in the long-run—in the long-run, I say!—success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it”

― Viktor E. Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

“The attempt to develop a sense of humor and to see things in a humorous light is some kind of a trick learned while mastering the art of living.”

“Love is the only way to grasp another human being in the innermost core of his personality.

No one can become fully aware of the very essence of another human being unless he loves him.

By his love he is enabled to see the essential traits and features in the beloved person; and even more, he sees that which is potential in him, which is not yet actualized but yet ought to be actualized.

Furthermore, by his love, the loving person enables the beloved person to actualize these potentialities. By making him aware of what he can be and of what he should become, he makes these potentialities come true.”

So often, people feel like "there's got to be more to life..."

Maybe it feels like you’re missing out on your potential in life, career, or maybe you haven’t found the right partner in love…

You need to know that your life purpose exists and who you are serves a greater purpose in this world.

How do I know about this?

...from my unique challenges in life, beginning with my 30 year battle with depression, to when I almost died in an accident and was permanently injured, to when I was diagnosed with a debilitating auto-immune disease, and risked every thing I had ever created in order to recover my health and ultimately my happiness.

I learned teachable techniques that helped me to grow a meaningful business which serves people around the world, and live a life filled with love, purpose, adventure, and miracles.

The same techniques I've used to create a life worth living, I have taught to many people who have then become fulfilled in life, love, and career, and I'd love to teach you how to start finding and restoring your life purpose too. I can promise that you will never look at life the same way again.

Whether you are considering making a life transition and don't know where to begin, or stuck in the same self-defeating patterns year after year, energy medicine offers unparalleled results in creating lasting transformation.

Have Your New Year's Resolutions Already Failed? Here's a Better Idea...

Inspiring, Learning to Love Yourself, Life LessonsGuest Writer
Why New Year's Resolutions Fail

Statistically speaking, 80% of New Year's Resolutions fail by February.

I didn't make New Year's Resolutions this year, because I know they tend to be more of a reason to beat myself up later for failing, than helpful intentions to guide the year ahead of me.

"Every year, millions of Americans make New Year’s resolutions, but research suggests only a fraction actually keep them.

Things like weight loss and getting more exercise are typically among the most popular resolutions, but this year a new Marist poll found that “being a better person” tops the list."

— ASHLEY WELCH CBS NEWS December 30, 2016

What was it you were wanting to change this year?

  • Is it finally time to lose those ten pounds?
  • Is it finally time to leave that job that devalues you?
  • Is it finally time to get your finances in order?
  • Is it finally time to meditate daily or ramp up your spiritual practice?
  • Is it finally time to exercise more?

This list above comes from my own resolutions made over and over again. I use the word ‘finally’ because New Year’s resolutions are sort of like those promises you make to yourself when you go to bed each night.

  • “Tomorrow” I’ll get up early and meditate.
  • “Tomorrow” I’ll eat a healthy breakfast.
  • “Tomorrow” I’ll go in and ask for a raise.
  • “Tomorrow” I’ll change my spending habits.
  • “Tomorrow” I’ll exercise first thing.

A few years ago I had the stunning revelation that “tomorrow” is ALWAYS tomorrow.

Now that may not seem stunning to you but it stopped me cold. I got it. Finally I got it!

I heard the voice of Yoda in my head saying ‘There is no TRY, only DO or not DO.”

So I stopped making New Year’s resolutions and instead started thinking about my life along certain themes. I became so enamored of this idea that I did away with resolutions entirely and focused instead on a theme that would carry me through each New Year.

CREATING THEMES INSTEAD OF RESOLUTIONS: "SIMPLIFY MY LIFE"

My first theme was ‘simplifying my life’ and in the years I worked with that theme I moved twice, each time letting go of a lot of material goods I no longer needed or wanted.

But getting rid of furniture, clothing and knick-knacks was not the real benefit of working on my theme. I also made some important changes in my work relationships and activities. So I found myself letting go of relationships that weren’t fulfilling (not easy!) and refocused my work around a few key areas instead of trying to do everything that floated into my busy brain.

MY NEXT THEME WAS: "FINISHING WHAT I START"

As a writer filled with the impulse to create I struggle with staying with one project at a time long enough to get something finished. So that theme was all about completion for me and I carried that theme with me in all areas of my life finally getting books into publishing, getting my website in the hands of developers for a redo and also completing some aspects of my legal business structure that I had put off for a while.

I also discovered that my themes tend to span years and bring lots of opportunities for growth and the empowerment of choice.  And the old themes stay with me even as I choose a new theme for the New Year. So I continue to simplify as I go and also keep the lessons in completing what I am working on before moving on to the next great idea.

MY NEXT THEME WAS: "I AM ENOUGH."

That theme proved to be a real challenge and brought me lots of opportunities for growth as I stepped into my life in all areas as ‘enough.’ Over time I found I became more confident and more at peace with all aspects of my life and definitely no longer someone willing to allow other people’s expectations to define me but it is still very much a theme in progress.

That theme led directly to my next theme which was ‘self-love – body, mind, spirit.’

With that theme in my head and heart, I released 40 excess pounds and got healthier on many levels. I focused on self-forgiveness and released a lot of unresolved emotion around past events.

AND THAT THEME HAS LED TO MY THEME FOR 2017:  "RELEASING THE PAST."

This year I will work to align my thoughts, emotions and actions with presence.  For me, and maybe for you, it is so easy to get stuck in the mind ruminating over mistakes, poor choices and missed opportunities. Even though I know the past is over and done, it creeps into my present and affects my actions and choices.

But not any more.

MY NEW MANTRA IS: "ONLY TODAY EXISTS."

I like to create mantras and affirmations around my theme for the year and this one snaps me into presence like no other. Just like all my other themes, my new focus will bring many challenges as I release long-standing patterns of procrastination, prioritizing others’ needs before my own or holding back from fears that originated in past events. I know my theme will continue to change my life in ways large and small.

HOW TO WORK WITH THEMES FOR 2017

I invite you to join me in working with Themes rather than resolutions this year and begin your process of first envisioning the life you want and then choosing a theme that will support your most cherished dreams.

To help you I have created an e-workbook called Themes and Dreams that explains the process and includes worksheets for you to use to create your own theme(s) for 2017.

Wishing your 2017 to be filled with love, light and peace.
